Ultra Sound

אולטרה סאונד (בעברית: על שמע) הוא קול בתדירות הגבוהה מהתדירות הגבוהה ביותר שאדם יכול לשמוע (בדרך-כלל 20 קילוהרץ). כמה בעלי-חיים, כגון כלבים, דולפינים ועטלפים, יכולים לשמוע תדירויות גבוהות יותר מהאדם, ולפיכך הם יכולים לשמוע אולטרה סאונד (בתדירויות מסוימות).

לאולטרה סאונד שימושים בתעשיה וברפואה. בדיקת אולטרה סאונד משמשת לראיית שרירים ורקמות רכות, והיא שימושית ברפואה לסריקת איברים. סורקי אולטרה סאונד טיפוסיים פועלים בתדירויות של 2 עד 10 מגהרץ. גלי אולטרה סאונד חזקים משמשים גם לריסוק אבנים בכליות.

אולטרה סאונד משמש גם למכשירי ניקוי, הפועלים בדרך-כלל בתדירויות של 20 עד 40 קילוהרץ. מכשירים אלה שימושיים לניקוי תכשיטים, עדשות ורכיבים אופטיים אחרים, שעוני יד, מכשירים לרפואת שיניים, מכשירי ניתוח, ורכיבים תעשיתיים.
